Parents with Learning Difficulties and their Older Children

How can we best support parents with a learning difficulty who are caring for school-aged children?

This project is exploring how best to support parents with a learning difficulty who have children at primary school. The project is evaluating the efficacy of the new Parenting Young Children: Early School Years program (PYC-ESY) for parents with a learning difficulty who are caring for school-aged children.

Although research shows that all parents face significant new and ongoing challenges to their parenting as their children grow and develop, there are no known resources specifically designed to support parents with a learning difficulty as they raise children beyond the preschool years.

The PYC-ESY program will be piloted with a small number of parents with learning difficulties who have children aged six to nine years. The pilot will investigate how acceptable and useful it is forthese parents.
