Video Modelling Intervention for Parents with Learning Difficulties

Are the Step by Step video-modelling DVDs effective in teaching parenting skills to parents with a learning difficultly?

This research is evaluating the effectiveness of the Step by Step DVDs in teaching baby care and parenting skills to parents with a learning difficulty. The DVDs use a step-by-step approach that breaks down parenting tasks into small components. The DVDs use repetition and prompting to direct parents’ attention to the most important parts of each skill being taught.

Previous research suggests that self-instruction through written manuals and audio material can be useful in teaching child-care skills to parents with a learning difficulty. It is reasonable to assume that video-based self-instruction may be an even more accessible and effective learning tool for parents with a learning difficulty, particularly those with a limited reading ability.
