Embedding Evidence-based Practice
We are applying a systematic framework for conducting implementation research and applying implementation support with Wanslea Family Services, an agency in Perth. The aim is to help workers deliver services that address the needs of the children and families they support, and that consider the unique organisational context of that agency.
Our collaboration with Wanslea Family Services is part of a wider program in which we are working genuinely with researchers, practitioners, decision makers and other stakeholders to build the capacity of organisations to deliver evidence-based practice. This process requires active, purposeful and planned activities, designed specifically to ensure that what works is successfully embedded within an organisation, so all staff within an agency are working towards achieving similar outcomes.
Based on the best available implementation science, the PRC has developed a collaborative process for effectively supporting community agencies to identify, develop, adapt and implement evidence-based parenting support practice and interventions. We are engaged in a variety of projects to build the capacity of organisations to deliver evidence-based practice.
Currently, the PRC Knowledge Exchange and Implementation team is working with Wanslea Family Services to implement an evidence-informed practice framework that will provide the agency with a unified approach to service delivery in its child, family and community programs.
We are using a model of collaborative development and implementation to support Wanslea to develop a specific and detailed framework to guide practice with families and to promote evidence-informed approaches and consistent performance among frontline staff.
These types of collaborations aim to:
- enhance the use of evidence in practice and change behaviour
- enhance practitioner’s knowledge and understanding of the evidence.
The aim of the practice framework is to outline the values and principles that underlie Wanslea’s approach to working with children and families. The framework will also describe specific approaches and techniques that are fundamental to achieving the desired outcomes.
