Service: Strengthening practice

Our work with the MyTime program

Our MyTime Communities of Practice program (CoPs) provides a space for program facilitators to share successes, challenges, and ideas. This helps build professional connections and improve facilitators’ practice knowledge and skills.

Our CoPs also provide an opportunity for us (as the national program manager) to hear directly from facilitators. This opens the door to ongoing program improvements and practice supports.

About this work

Opening communication pathways

Our MyTime program provides a nationwide network of in-person and online peer support groups for parents and carers of children with additional needs.

With more than 150 facilitators from eight separate delivery partners running 200-plus MyTime groups, the need for connection and collaboration between facilitators was high, but the opportunity to do so was low.

What we did

Five new CoPs

Using our expertise in CoPs,  we developed a program and schedule that suited the context of the MyTime program.

MyTime facilitators were invited to join one of five new CoPs in 2024, which are centrally managed and facilitated by us.

Meeting online four times per year, these CoPs give facilitators an opportunity to build connections and professional relationships.

We bring practice and coaching experience to MyTime’s CoPs, which allows us to guide facilitators through their practice challenges, ensuring our CoPs are positive and productive.

What we found

Improving practice

The new CoPs program opens communication pathways between facilitators across the country, and between facilitators and us (as the national program manager).

The CoPs provide the opportunity for MyTime facilitators to reflect on their own practice and learn from peers. This benefits individual practice and strengthens the program as a whole, improving the experience of the families who attend MyTime.

It was wonderful to be able to chat with other facilitators and particularly good to feel you weren't alone in experiencing any group issues.
